IPMI Foundation Awards

IPMI Premier Awards

Each year IPMI presents three awards to individuals whose contribution to the precious metals industry, either academia or industry, is considered exceptional. Recipients are selected by the Awards Committee based on nominations received from IPMI members or previous award recipients.

The Premier Awards are the following:

The Jun-ichiro Tanaka Award Distinguished Achievement Award recognizes important career contributions made to the advancement of the precious metals industry. These advancements can be in the technical, economical or managerial area. First presented in 1978, this award is sponsored by The Tanaka Memorial Foundation.
The IPMI Henry J. Albert Award recognizes and encourages outstanding theoretical and experimental science and technology contributions in precious metals. First presented in 1988, this award is sponsored by the BASF Corporation.
The IPMI Carol Tyler Award recognizes the achievement of a woman in the field of precious metals either in academia or industry. First presented in 2011, this award is sponsored by BRM Services.

IPMI Student Awards

The IPMI Foundation is the charitable, scientific, and educational affiliate of the International Precious Metals Institute (IPMI). One of the foundation’s primary purposes is its Student Awards Program. Each year, students performing fundamental and applied research in the field of precious metals receive this award. The following awards are presented:

IPMI Premier Student Award : One corporate-sponsored premier award in the amount of US$ 10,000, as well as US$ 5,000 to the student’s advisor.
IPMI Student Awards : Up to 2 IPMI-sponsored awards in the amount of US$ 5,000 each.
IPMI Corporate Student Awards : Several corporate-sponsored awards in the amount of US$ 5,000 each sponsored by some of the most prestigious companies in the precious metals industry.

IPMI Founders' Award

The IPMI Founders’ Award is sponsored by one of IPMI's founding companies, Gannon & Scott. This award recognizes an IPMI member that has contributed their efforts and/or experience towards the betterment or sustainability of the Institute and its mission.

Unlike the other Awards whose recipients are selected by the IPMI Awards Committee, the IPMI Founders Award winner is chosen by the IPMI Executive Committee (EXCO). No nomination is accepted.

IPMI FideliTrade Internship Awards

Since 2019 IPMI added two Internship Awards for undergraduate students from all educational disciplines related to precious metals.

Up to two member companies can either submit applications for their preferred candidate or IPMI can assist with their recruitment. The final decision rests with the hiring company. Each internship awardee will receive US$ 5,000 from the Foundation Endowment after completion of the assignment. The hiring company is responsible for the payment of the award recipient as well as travel to and accommodation for the Annual Conference.

Best suited for the Internship Award are students in their junior year. However, Sophomores or Seniors will be considered as well.

At the Annual Conference the awardee(s) will present their work and receive the award in an official ceremony during the Awards Banquet.
